Welcome to my webpages. The QR-tag you scanned has led you to this page which is in English. The rest of my site is still in Dutch, but to be able to see my other works just click on "Foto galerij" in the bar at the top of the page. A sub-menu will appear. The top one is a link to my most recent works, the 2nd shows some pictures of me while I am glassblowing, the 3rd shows some blown work, the 4th shows fused plates, the 5th are glassworks which can be hung (either on a wall, or in front of a window), the 6th shows casted glassworks and the final shows some "non-glass" works.
But let me give you some more information on "Burn-out".
In September 2012 I had a training on leadership. This training was really focusing on exploring yourself and the way you look at others. This exploring myself revealed a lot of troubles which I had "stuffed away" over the 45 years of my life. Although I was a good group leader and I cared about my team members a lot, I had never really looked at myself. During the training I could no longer get away from taking a good look at myself and the way I lived my life and what I saw was not a nice picture to see.
So this 3 day training triggered a severe burn-out. After half a year I made this sculpture to visualize what had happened. I felt like my brains were burned away, I could not concentrate myself for more than a few moments (just reading a book was impossible and also the local newspaper was not always understood). To visualize this I "sculpted" (with a chainsaw :-) ) my head and then torched it with my gastorch. To visualize the flames I used fused glass.
Now I am one year further in my life and I am still recovering. I currently work half days at ASML with a reduced workload. The tasks I am working on are getting a little bit more complicated, but are still not on the level I functioned before the burn-out.
I also have psychotherapy. This helps me in re-establishing a view on myself. For more information please look at my page on "Imperfect 2014", my submission for
the 2014 ASML Art Route.
